I have just tried what you suggested and there are no files in there of *.xar
type, only one file of *.xlb format. It obviously hasn't kept the changes I
made which I didn't save.

Oh well, I'll have to be more careful in future!

You will see a path in "autorecover save location"

Follow that path in Windows Explorer.

Look for *.xar files.

If you find one with a recent date/time rename it to *.xls and open it.

Lots of luck.

The Autorecover files are generally dumped when you close the file normally.
