Default conditional formatting

This is a separate conditional formatting for each cell, the first in B2 is
a formula of =LEN(A1)=0, with a font colour and pattern colour of grey, the
second is a formula of =AND(A2=--"2006-12-01",A2<=--"2007-01-41") and set
the font colour to white.

I am trying to add two conditions to a cell using the formula bar in
conditional formating.
1. If cell A1 is blank, then B2 is blank and grey
2. If A2 has a date entry between 1/12/06 and 31/01/07, then A2 should
turn
white (no fill) and allow and entry.

Is this too ambitious?
