Default Excel "not responding"

Maybe try defragmenting your hard drive?

Tried that, no change. Still VERY sluggish with (Not Responding) occuring
after every 3-4 operations(changing cells, entering data, etc.).

This is a problem I've been having with Excel for several months. Whenever
I
open a .xls file, it takes a few moments to launch. After the book is
open,
the program will stop responding for varying lengths of time. Excel will
append the file name with the "Not Responding" tag for a bit, then it will
begin responding again until a few more operations are input, then it will
quit responding again. This makes it extremely difficult to get anything
accomplished in Excel in a reasonable amount of time. I've deleted Office
and
re-installed it and teh problem still occurs. Any suggestions?
