How do I set up for greater than 3 formats in excel?
Sure - Format them all to one colour, or just use the default, and then use
CF to get you 3 others - That gives you 4 in total.

I have a spreadsheet resulting from an SQL query which produces a collumn of

I have 8 possible 'Status' results and wish to apply 4 colour separations.
Any suggestions?
