Just to explain more I've got Word.doc with a link to Excel.xls - also in
word.doc is a summary table of linked cells from Excel.xls. I could maybe use
a macro to force users to 'save as' when exiting Excel.xls which would
prevent overwriting the master version of Excel.xls every time, BUT the
summary table cells in word.doc would always be linked to the original
Excel.xls.
Any ideas?

undertake (master is stored on the intranet) - they then click into the
spreadsheet from the word doc and save this as part of their project - this
has recently started to save over the master copy. Changes made to the master
copy overwrite all individual project documents. I'm sure this never used to
happen! Any ideas on why this is happening??
