Default copy formats vlookup

Not using a formula.

As an alternative, I think I'd put those notes in another cell in the same row.

Then you could use another =vlookup() formula to return the note.

Heck, if you really interested, you could use
format|Conditional formatting to bold the first cell (based on the value in the
note cell).

Is it possible with vlookup that selected fields are copied with all their
formats? I have a source chart with prices where for a limited number of
products, there are special prices because of a seasonal sales promotion.
I have formatted them bold, italic and with a coloured background. I
would like to copy all this to make a distinction in my target chart.
Thanks.
