if you use:
=len(a1)
(point at the correct cell)

What do you see?

If you see the correct length, but not all the string, try widening the column
or increasing the rowheight.

Be aware that if the sending workbook is closed, then excel will return 255 (or
256???) characters in a formula like this.

If you open the sending workbook, all the text will be returned--it's the way
excel works with closed workbooks.
