I am getting a message with Excel 97 that states that a file that I am
trying to open locally is in use by another user (which its not) and if
I continue to open it will only be read-only.

I had the same problem with Word 97 (bad install of office 97 perhaps?)
and I fixed it by deleting Normal.dot

Does anybody know of anything I can do to fix this similar problem in
Excel?
