It really depends on your Excel version and your operating system. FYI, I am
running XP SP2 with Excel 2000 and my XLStart folder is in C:\Program
Files\Microsoft Office\Office.
I don't know why you have more than one!
I would suggest copying your book.xlt to each XLStart folder in turn and
opening Excel to see whether it's the right one!

c:\Documents\Settings\My Documents\Application
Data\Microsoft\Excel\Xlstart

And the other

c:\Program files\Microsoft office\office11\Xlstart.

The default file that has been amended to the way I want it is in the
latter directory.

There are no excel files of any kind in the Windows Start up directory

option and save your book as book.xlt it should do the trick.

I reckon this is determined by the first sheet you open in the session.
If it has the label option disabled, that's how it is. Either save your
default book with the option set, or always open a sheet with the
option selected as the first sheet.
