If I understand correctly:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(ROW(INDIRECT(B1&":"&B2))=$A3),--(ROW(INDIRECT(B1&":"&B2))<=$A4))

Copy across as needed.

B1 and B2 contain Year one start & Finish (eg 1/1/05 and 31/12/05)
Subsequent Colums contain subsequent years.

I need help in trying to establish how many days within the dates
