Hi mango

with mary in B6 and food in B7 the following formula works for me
=INDIRECT(B6) INDIRECT(B7)
(note the space before the second indirect)

alternatively you could use
=INDEX(A1:D3,MATCH(B7,A1:A3,0),MATCH(B6,A1:D1,0))

where your original table is in the range A1:D3
