Create a PivotTable (Data | PivotTable and PivotChart Report...). Use the
text field of interest as the row field *and* the data field. XL will
automatically use the COUNT() function for that field.

Hi,
I have a spreadsheet that includes various demographic statistics.
However, the fields that I would like to separate out and chart the
frequency of are all text. Is there a way, without assigning number
values, that I can graph the frequency of male vs. female, for example?
I'd like to do the same for class, city, etc.
Thanks!
