Are you using macros / querries in any of the workbooks? they don't update by
themselves ... atleast not by default. Also does this error come up if all
the files are open??
It is also worth checking you access rights to this network drive.
If the problem persists send me some more details regarding the content of
these workbooks and the way you have created the links... if possible send me
an example of a non working link (the expression in the cell which fails to
connect)

Excel 2000/XP in Windows 2000 domain environment:

I have several .xls files that have links to other files. Both the file and
the files to which it is linked are located on a mapped network drive. The
links show the correct network path, but for some reason, the links quit
working. The cell shows the correct path to the linked file/worksheet/cell,
but will not update. Attempts to update open the file locator browse dialog.

Edit - Links - shows Unkown
Check Status - shows Error: Source not found

The Location is the correct location of the file. The network path & file
name in one example is 98 characters long, nowhere near 255, so I am sure
this is not a length issue.

Change Source - when I locate the same file that is in Location, then the
status changes from Error: Source not found to OK.
