Open Excel as normal, do not open a workbook. Just a new workbook if you
have the setting for no workbook on startup.

Tools Options Security ..

"File Sharing Settings for this workbook"

If "Read-Only Recommended" is checked then, uncheck it.

Otherwise check with your Administrator ....

Excluserforeman...I have already tried that method. It lets me unclick the
read only button, but it does not stay that way. It's like there is some
sort of a block or master computer that is overwriting my preferences. Any
other ideas?

If you right-click on the folder it may be "read only". Open the folder,
select all the files, rightclick a file, select properties then uncheck the
read-only box. Apply.

I am working with Excel 2003 and have a folder with about 50 files saved in
it and each file is read-only, and I need it to be read-write.
I have followed the procedures in the help section with no success, and am
confused as to why the files would all of a sudden switch to read-only and
not let me change them back.
