Default Pressing ctrl (Excel - selecting cells) causes mouse to freeze..?

Hi Kelly,
You turned on EXT (EXTended Selection) by hitting F8, which allows you to
extend a selection by selecting another cell away from the original selected cell.
Hitting Ctrl allows you to select a new original cell, then selecting another cell
w/o ctrl extends the selection

From the sounds of it you might actually want ADDed Extension by hitting Shift+F8
You will see EXT or ADD on the Status Bar.

but the most important page relating to this if you have a problem is
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/ghosting.txt

To eliminate and get back to normal: from EXT hit F8, From ADD hit F8 twice.

If you keep extending a selection without clicking then you have a problem
described in http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/ghosting.txt
and several possibilities to alleviate the problem, no one solution works
each time and no one solution works for everyone. I tend to think that the
default middle click button is part of the problem, but even with it set to Enter
you may still occasionally have a problem. Make sure your mouse drivers
are up to date. I've not had a serious problem for about 3 years..
