This little macro records the date in the selected cell and formats it:

Sub Macro2()
Dim d As Date
Dim s As String
d = Now()
s = d
Selection.FormulaR1C1 = s
Selection.NumberFormat = "mm/dd/yy;@"
End Sub

If you always want the date to go in a certain cell, then select it in the
macro.
