Your new column is formatted as text.
Format as general and re-enter the formula (F2, ENTER)

I am sure this is simple.
I have inserted a new column into a sheet.

However when I insert any formula (e.g. =A1) into the new sheet it does
not behaves as a formula.
I.e. the cell simple remains as "=A1" instead of taking the value in
"A1"
