Dave Peterson has just the nail on the head in one of your other posts. If I
enter =11/05/2004 I get 0.001097804, whereas if I enter just 11/05/2004 then I
get a date.

From Dave's post, you either have a Lotus transition option enabled or you are
entering dates preceded with an = sign:-

Tools|options|transition tab
uncheck "transition formula entry"

and don't put an = before any dates.

I type in 11/5/2004 and teh result is 0.001097804. I format this to Number
with two decimal places and get 0.00. I format this to dd-mth-yy and get
00-jan-00

If you entered Todays date in a cell, and got 00-Jan-00, what does it become
if
you format the cell as Number and add a couple of decimal places?

In SOME of my worksheets when i enter a date it always comes up as
00-Jan-00.
this does not occur in all sheets and no matter what i do re formatting the
cell i get the same thing. I have confirmed that Tools;Options is using
1900
and NOT 1904 system. I don't recall ever changing this. this problem
starting occuring after Y2K changeover. at one time i had a knowledge base
printout addressing this but have since lost it. I have searched Microsoft
KB again but could not find anything on this. It is strange that within
the
same workbook another sheet does not have this issue when i tested for it.
Some worksheets some times driving me crazy!--
Thank you for your help
Gail
