Appreciate your response Dave. When selected, the rows for the desired item
are blue, all others are black.

However, you caused me to re-read Chris' response. I had misinterpreted it.
I REMOVED autofilter, selected the desired area, activated autofilter, and
it then worked as desired.

Dave, thanks for stimulating me to see outside the box.

Remove Autofilter.
Insert a new row 1, and put headings at the top of each column.
Apply Autofilter and use, and you should see all occurrences of Bob,
(well up to 1000 anyway, but that's another problem!!!)
