- Click on the "Data" tab in the ribbon at the top of the screen.
- Click on the "Sort" button in the "Sort & Filter" section of the ribbon.
- In the "Sort" dialog box that appears, click on the "Sort by" drop-down menu and select "Original Order" at the top of the list.
- Click on the "OK" button to remove the sort and return the data to its original order.
How to Add a Column for Original Order in Excel 2007
- Insert a new column to the left of your data.
- In the first cell of the new column, enter the number "1".
- In the cell below that, enter the formula "" (assuming your data starts in cell A2).
- Copy the formula down the entire column to number each row in the original order.
- Now you can sort your data by date or any other column, but still see the original order in the new column you added.
I hope that helps!
