Take a look at the INDIRECT() function...

I actually did try that, formula looks like this and returns #NAME.

=SUM(IF(FREQUENCY(A1:F&INDIRECT(G1),A1:F&INDIRECT( G1))0,1))

Must have the syntax wrong.
