You should be able to mask the problem by using

Application.displayalerts=false
your code
application.displayalerts=true

But really it would be better to get to the bottom of the problem and it
sounds to me like an Excel version problem.

What vesrion of Excel are you using?
If it's 2007 then use the correct extension of .xlsx or .xlsm
