You can either install the Findlink.xla addin or just use file|open to be able
to use it.
I don't load it as an addin--I just do a file|open when I need it.
After it's open (either way), look under Tools, you'll find "Find Links". Click
on that. And you'll see what the options are.
ps. If you've installed Findlink.xla as an addin, you should see:
Find/delete links
in the tools|addins dialog.

I went back and clicked on Tools/Add-Ins.... An Add-Ins dialoge box opened with
Add-Ins available: At the bottom was Update Add-in Links. It was checked. All of
the options were already checked.
When I click on it and select Browse... an open dialogue box comes up with
Sound-Proof in an AddIns folder. When I drop the arrow, I see that the path for
this AddIns folder is: Windows/Application Data/Microsoft/AddIns.
If I go to Tools and Update AddIn Links.... A little Update AddIn Links dialogue box
opens. The radio button is in Active document (or there is a choice for All open
documents). If you click OK, nothing discernable happens. When I close and reopen,
it still prompts to update links.
There are no choices, so it didn't seem as though I was doing anything wrong. I
don't know about or see anywhere any of the options you referred to.

Hmmm.
One of the options in findlink is to delete the link (replace it with the
value).
That didn't work?
And one of the options was to just convert the links to values with no messages.
That didn't work either?

I went and tried after your post, but it made no difference. This is Excel
2000. At work I have the exact same problem. If you have any other
suggestions, I'd be anxious to hear them.

The findlink addin has lots of options. Did you try it?

First, thank you for telling me about the graphics. I didn't
realize that. Regarding the links, I appreciate the direction, but it's
not a matter of finding the links. I know where they are. I want them
broken. I do not want to be questioned about whether or not I want to
update them on a daily basis when I open my gradebook. I use it
everyday for keeping attendance and grades.
There is no reason to update the workbooks it's linked to. I keep
that information, because on rare occasion I've been questioned later in
the year about what grade a student had when they left me, because the
main attendance/grade database lost information and they needed to
regather it.
If anyone can tell me how to break the links I would be extremely
grateful.
Thank you.
