Hi,
I used the Tools/Options/Edit and removed the ck box to prompt to update
links. Now it won't prompt-- it just tries to open the link and I get hung up
there because that link's been deleted. Even when I try to click OK, that open
dialog box just keeps coming up.
My mistake was not pasting values only, which was how I figure I got into
this mess to begin with. Too late now. I also when to the Calculation tab in
Tools/Options and removed the save external link values, and I still have the
same problem when opening.
I may pull my hair out over this one, yet. Any other suggestions?

Sorry... I jumped in without testing the water because of the split post.
If you want to leave the links intact but not be prompted, you can go to
ToolsOptionsEdit and remove the check for prompting for link updates. You
can also select the cells, copy - but leave them selected, then use
EditPaste Special--Values. I believe there is also a
ToolsOptionsCalculation checkbox for 'Save external link values' which may
also do the job if you clear the checkbox.

Hello-
Open the file and go to EditLinks, select them all from the list and click
the Break Link button.

First, thank you for telling me about the graphics. I didn't
realize that. Regarding the links, I appreciate the direction, but it's
not a matter of finding the links. I know where they are. I want them
broken. I do not want to be questioned about whether or not I want to
update them on a daily basis when I open my gradebook. I use it
everyday for keeping attendance and grades.
There is no reason to update the workbooks it's linked to. I keep
that information, because on rare occasion I've been questioned later in
the year about what grade a student had when they left me, because the
main attendance/grade database lost information and they needed to
regather it.
If anyone can tell me how to break the links I would be extremely
grateful.
Thank you.
