--You are writing the stored value to the same cell

xlastdev = ActiveCell.Value
xnextDev = ActiveCell.Address

Range(xnextDev).ClearContents
Msgbox "Cleared"

Range(xnextDev).Value = xlastdev

--If you are looking to write to the next cell try
Range(xnextDev).OffSet(1) = xlastdev
