I found this webpage very helpful in fixing the problem. I was trawling
around google for ages looking for a fix to the refedit issue and what's
suggested here really helped me and has fixed the problem (although it's
early days yet!).

The webpage describes several solutions, but the one that worked for me
(as an Excel 2007 user) was to "run office Diagnostics".
