My Pivot Table Field List has rudely attached itself to the top of the Excel
application window, above even the menu.

I can turn it totally off by clicking the X in the upper right, but I can't
seem to get it to reset to be the (still annoying, but occasionally useful)
floating box that it usually is.

Can someone tell me how to do this? There is not any Resize button on it.
