=INDEX($A$1:$F$1,MAX(IF(B2:F2<"",COLUMN(B2:F2))))

which is an array formula, it should be committed with Ctrl-Shift-Enter, not
just Enter.
Excel will automatically enclose the formula in braces (curly brackets), do
not try to do this manually.
When editing the formula, it must again be array-entered.

header (percent completed) to the end of the row. This seems clunky, plus
some sheets have 10% increments and the formula nesting is limited to 7.
