If you type "1000000" in a cell with no formatting, it will appear as
"1000000".

If you go to Format -- Cells -- Number (tab), and select "Number"
(second choice in the list), you'll have the options to "Use 1000
Separator (,)", as well as to set the number of decimal points, etc.
