Preselect A through J for as many rows as you would be using.
For example select A1:J100
Set up your conditions for Column A like Use a Formula =$A1="Paid"
then format and =$A1="Unpaid" then format
Make sure you use the $ sign as I have shown which locks the column
but allows the row to increment down to row 100
