I don't think you can know what the existing settings were.

But you could do a dummy data|text to columns and set it to anything you like
(comma delimited?).

I'd record a macro when I put some junk in an empty cell,
did that dummy data|text to columns
and then cleared the cell

And you could add that code to your procedure.
