Not that I know. Excel is the only program I know which is able to insert
data in an existing Excel file. I know the existence of many programs that
can create Excel files from scratch, without actually running Excel itself,
but editing existing ones, I never saw anything so far.

Note that Excel is an OLE automation server since version 5!
