There is an old Zen quote that answers your question very well...

"To find yourself, you must first lose yourself."

As a beginner you need to open your mind to new possiblities and not
summarily dismiss their potential through bias or prejudice based on
prior experience.

To put it simply, lose the attitude and be grateful for the help others
have to offer.
