Default Personal.xls

If excel thought the workbook was bad enough to disable, maybe there really was
something bad with it.

This has happened to me a couple of times. It appears that excel can be too
aggressive in quarantining a file.
But if you put the quarantined file back and excel continues to disable it, it
might be time to delete the troublesome file and use the backup.

(It was also my passive-aggressive way to remind people to make backups of
important files--including personal.xl*.)

What does this mean?
If the workbook is really bad, you'll want to put your backup copy in XLStart.

Maybe it was disabled...

xl2002+ have the abililty to quarantine what it thinks are bad workbooks.

They can keep track of them so that it doesn't even try to open them.

If you look under Help|About MS Excel, you'll see a button called: "Disabled
Items...".

Check under there to see if it's marked not to open. You can enable it there,
too.

If the workbook is really bad, you'll want to put your backup copy in XLStart.
