Its apparently wrong. ASCII 189 and therefore =CHAR(189) is 1/2 ,ASCII 171
and =CHAR(171) is <<
To see all the combinations try
=CHAR(ROW())
in A1 and drag down to A255
Change the fonts to see what occurs,
