hi,
I am not entire sure what you want but i guess ...
from excel help....
Set properties to make a workbook read-only
If you make a workbook read-only, changes to the workbook
cannot be saved in the same workbook file. You can,
however, use the Save As command (File menu) to save
another version of the file with a different name or in
another location.
1.On the Windows Start menu, point to Programs, and then
click Windows Explorer.
2.In the Exploring window, open the drive or folder that
contains the file.
3.Click the file name.
4.On the File menu, click Properties.
5.On the General tab, select the Read-only check box.
but i am not sure this will stop your backup copy from
replicating itself.

HI all,
Any thoughts on the above?, i really need to solve this
problem
otherwise the back up copy will replicate its self if
someone opens it
and a date change has occurred and this will cause a
great deal of
confusion.
Hope you can help!
Simon.
