Thank you - that must be it. We are using new software that uses Excel to
display/read a database (I'm not a real techie so I'm not sure how that
works) but anyway this is the change that must have created behind the scene
formulas in all files I work in now. Thank you very much for your answer.

workbook that has a formula in it like =NOW() or =TODAY(), both of which
"automatically update" and, in essence, change your file, which makes it ask
about saving.
