I tried
ActiveSheet.AutoFilterMode = False

which seems to work OK

but when I try
ActiveSheet.AutoFilterMode = True it never works.

Can you tell what I'm doing wrong?

This works for me. ws represents a worksheet, since
AutoFilterMode is a worksheet property.
