I have never heard of this problem occuring with a file residing on a local
machine. Have you tried it on another computer to see if it related to your
hardware? Also, are you using a user profile that has customised Excel with
Add-Ins or other changes? If so, try a clean user profile and see if things
work better.

My environment is Windows XP Pro, with all critical updates; Office/Excel
2003 (without updates so far); Norton Antivirus 2003 Pro. The PC is in a
SOHO workgroup with some network shares set up, but no server or domain
involved. The file is not on a network share. Although I have experienced
Excel crashes from time to time, this problem occurs even when excel is
started cleanly, workbooks saved without error and then excel exited
cleanly. The workbook is not shared.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
