Try this Fred

Sub test()
Selection.AutoFilter Field:=3, Criteria1:=Household
If ActiveSheet.AutoFilter.Range.Cells.SpecialCells(xl CellTypeVisible).Count _
= Selection.Columns.Count Then MsgBox "no cells"
End Sub
