Default InitializeComponent() errors, Setting values in another form

Help!

The upgrade path to vb.net is not an easy one....at least for me. I have
two issues...right now.

I am getting an error when I try to show a form created with the
designer. The problem is when the newly created form calls
InitializeComponent(). Code follows:

Dim SMeasurements As New SelectMeasurements 'created with desiger
SMeasurements.Show() 'modeless dialog


Public Sub New()
MyBase.New()

'This call is required by the Windows Form Designer.
InitializeComponent()

'Add any initialization after the InitializeComponent() call

End Sub

My other problem is setting the values in on form from another, like
text boxes, check boxes etc.
