Default Likned Sheets

Appreciate any assistance that anyone can provide. I have a spreadsheet
(excel 2007) of which I have 8 people that I have to obtain data from. Is
there a way that I can create a spreadsheet for each and have them update the
main spreadsheet via their individual spreadsheets. I am hoping that there is
something out there better than cutting and pasting. I tried linking,
however, once I start typing in a cell the link goes away. Again I appreciate
any assistance/advice that you can provide.

An easy way: Let's say you have eight pages, named Adam, Barb, Chuck, etc.,
through Harold, all set up identically. You can add a sheet outside that set
(either in front or behind) named Total. In that Total worksheet, cell A1
could be:

='Adam:Harold'!A1

PB thanks for thr info. However, what I am trying to do is have them populate
certain fields. The main spreadsheet will do the rest.
