Default MicroSoft Excel

I have started to use Office 2007. My question involves Excel. I have found
that the highlighting of selected cells, rows and/or columns is difficult to
see. I have adjusted the brightness and contrast settings of my monitor with
no satisfactory resolution to the problem. Is this problem correctable?

MS is aware of the problem though so I'm optimistic Excel 14 (2009?) will be
better.
