Excel Outlook Attachments opening after several errors everytime
Example of problem:
An .xls file called myfilename.xls was clicked on as an Excel 2002 document attached to an Outlook 2002 E-mail and the following is seen: 'C:\Documents.XLS' could not be found. Check the spelling of the filename, and verify that the file locatation is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the file menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted. <Press OK to acknowledge above error and see the following error: 'and.xls' could not be found. Check the spelling of the filename, and verify that the file locatation is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the file menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted. <Press OK to acknowledge above error and see the following error: 'Setting\Administrator\Local.xls' could not be found. Check the spelling of the filename, and verify that the file locatation is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the file menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted. <Press OK to acknowledge above error and see the following error: 'Settings\Temporary.xls' could not be found. Check the spelling of the filename, and verify that the file locatation is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the file menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted. <Press OK to acknowledge above error and see the following error: 'Internet.xls' could not be found. Check the spelling of the filename, and verify that the file locatation is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the file menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted. <Press OK to acknowledge above error and see the following error: 'Files\OLK7\myfilename.xls' could not be found. Check the spelling of the filename, and verify that the file locatation is correct. If you are trying to open the file from your list of most recently used files on the file menu, make sure that the file has not been renamed, moved or deleted. <Press OK to acknowledge above error and the file attachment myfilename.xls FINALLY opens. We are using Office 2002 SP3, including Outlook and Excel. This is on a WinXP SP 2 Workstation. The problem with excel occurs regardless of who is logged into this PC (and the user can be authenticated to the company domain or local workstation, it makes no difference). I tried disabling the "ignore other applications" in the general tab of the Excel options and I ensured the path to the Exel.exe is correct with the /e switch in the registry (following knowlege base / newgroup info on the subject). Doing this had no effect on the problem with opening Exel attachments in Outlook. I would appreciate anyone's insight into this matter as it is an inconvienience to the user to have to acknowlege several errors just to open an Excel Attachment in Email. (The user regularly gets several as part of daily duties). Thanks in advance. |

I'd close excel and outlook and try reregistering excel.
Close Excel and Windows Start Button|Run excel /unregserver then Windows Start Button|Run excel /regserver The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's factory defaults. (I think you either misread that suggestion or got a bad suggestion with the /e.) cito_support wrote: Example of problem: An .xls file called myfilename.xls was clicked on as an Excel 2002 document attached to an Outlook 2002 E-mail and the following is seen: 'C:\Documents.XLS' could not be found.
