Moving personal.xls

Hello,
Is there a way to change the location of the XLSTART folder? We have a
process that backs up the "My Documents" folder, but XLSTART isn't in
there, and I'd like my macro workbook included in the backup in case
anything ever happens to my hard drive.

I tried creating a new XLSTART folder in My Documents and entering the
folder location in the Alternate Startup File Location on the general
tab of the options dialog box. However, this gives me an error telling
me I can't have two files named Personal.xls open at the same time.

If there's a setting somewhere that I can use to change the primary
startup file location, I'd appreciate it if someone could let me know
where it is. Excel2000, XPPro.

Thanks for the help.

Mike

Personally, I'd create a folder under "my documents" called Personal. I'd use
it to store a copy of my personal.xls files. I would think that it would make
it easier -- go to this folder first. Then go to the backup.

But if you have personal.xls in that alternate startup location, remove the file
from the real XLStart folder.

Then excel will only find one file with that name to open.

Dave,
Thanks for the help. What I ended up doing was moving personal.xls to
My Documents, then putting a shortcut to it in the real XLStart folder,
and that seems to be working. That way, I don't have to remember to
move a copy before I backup My Docs.

Thanks again.

Mike
