sorting problems in excel

I have a subscription that makes a new list every month. It has a list
of songs from four seperate discs with title names, artist names,
dates, disc numbers and other criteria.
I have cut and pasted the lists together in excel but it will only sort
within each individual disc and not as a whole list.
example.
I have 100 discs with 18 songs on it
each disc is numbered 1 - 100
I have everything pasted on one sheet as I received them in
chronological order
I want to have the entire list alphabetize by artist
but when I try my result is that it will only alphabetize each artist
list within each individual disc not the entire list as a whole.
when prompted I ask it to include all cells to the left and right yet
I dont get the right results what am I not getting?

Try selecting the whole range first--don't let excel guess where it should end.

Then use data|sort to sort that selection.
