I'm trying to create a file that has a letter head that spans the top of the
file. I want that image to go from edge to edge on the top of the printed
paper. But I can't seem to get the margin less then say 1/2" or so. Does
anyone know what I am doing wrong?

Not too many printer drivers will allow no whitespace left and right.

Zero margin usually leaves between 1/4 and 1/2 inch of whitespace.
