How do i change the heading values in workbooks

I have recently gotten a vista computer, the microsoft excel on it uses a
different range for the headings on the workbooks. Instead of the alphabet
(a, b, c) on the horizontal axis and numbers (1, 2, 3) on the vertical axis,
it uses numbers on both axis. This makes it confusing when looking at
formulas. (Eg: Instead of A1+A2 the formula comes up as R[-4]C+R[-3]C. Does
anyone know how to change the headings back to what they should be?
