looking for best system to process intensive excel spreadsheets

Hi
Can anyone recommend a system that works well with spreadsheets and
databases.
Our current p4 3gig machines crawl .
Is there a special processor/chipset that's good with for this.
Would a completely different system work better like the old silicone
graphics machines.
How about a different but comparable spreadsheet application.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Your PC should gallop!
When last did you do a disk compress? a fragmented disk slows your PC down!
How big are your files? Are you working with Gb's or Mb's!
Are you running macros? Is this when it becomes slow?
Do you use manual or automatic calculation? Manual calculation can speed
things up!
How much RAM do you have? 128Mb with Windows XP Pro is bound to make it
crawl, if it moves at all!
How is you virtual memory set up? Do you control it, or do you allow
Windows to do it!

There can be so many things wrong! Clearly, if a 3GHz P4 crawls, something
drastic is wrong. If you do not have the technical expertise to find the
problem, get a reputable technician in to take a look!
