I have text information in cells which I want to be able to drag and drop to
other cells, but I do not want to drag and drop the borders from the cells.

Dragging & Dropping copies everything - text, formating, formulas etc

You would need to use Copy & PasteSpecial

Try dragging with the *right* mouse button.
When you release it, you are presented a choice of copy, formats, or values.
